I recently developed this. This Sunday, I began doing something strange. I started reading the obituaries. I used to only get the Sunday paper for coupons. However, this Sunday, I went thru the obits thinking, “Maybe there’s someone in here that I know”. Uh..NO! My ancestors are in North Carolina and I live in Florida. My family in Florida consists of my immediate relatives. That’s it!

Now, I need to figure out a way to get a copy of Daily Advance at my house on a weekly basis….hmmm….

Picture courteously of JMK Books.

  1. One idea I had recently was to go through the obits and put people in findagrave. I've only browsed obits a few times, and have only added people maybe 2 or 3 times, but it could be something to make your obitis productive :-)

  2. I'm going to NC in August for my family reunion and I plan on going to one of the cemetaries to take pictures and post them to findagrave. But, I didn't think about my obits.

  3. Hi, I'm new to your blog but I think it's wonderful that you're doing this. I was just talking to someone the other day about how slavery makes it nearly impossible for African-Americans to trace our heritage and how painful that realization can be. Keep up this worthwhile work.

  4. Thanks for stopping by! Searching for my heritage has been difficult but it addictive to say the least.
